In the autumn semester of 2021-2022 school year, the Department of International Law invited professors and barristers from universities in the United States, Australia and New Zealand to offer a series of courses and workshops for students on the theme of "One Belt and One Road" and "Construction of Foreign-related Legal Talents", including legal English writing, international commercial arbitration, Anglo-American trust law and related case analysis.
Under the auspices of Professor Wang Xia, Professor Jennifer S. Stevenson first introduced the American judicial system and case retrieval system, then demonstrated the key points of legal analysis through case comparison, and then led students to complete the writing of legal documents according to the CREAC five-step method of writing legal documents. Barrister Paul F. Dalkie introduces international commercial arbitration and its procedures, how to analyze evidence and conduct written and oral submissions, and fraud analysis in international arbitration. Barrister Eva Ho compared and analyzed the legal system of trust in China and Singapore, and especially pointed out the positive role and risks of trust.
The series of courses and case studies involve three themes and lasted three months, which are strictly organized, with lively rhythm and pragmatic content, inspiring students' enthusiasm for deep learning. By actively asking questions and answering questions, students not only improved their English expression, but also expanded their legal thinking, broadened their international vision, and tempered their legal practice, laying a solid foundation for providing international legal services for students.
The successful ending of this series of courses of law marks a solid step forward on the cultivation of talents. In the future, we will continue to implement the general instructions of Chairman Xi about "speed up the strategy of rule of law concerning foreign affairs, combined with our advantage disciplines, together with the" law", "English" and "construction". We will continue to promote the training system of high-end foreign-related legal personnel serving the national foreign-related legal strategy, so as to cultivate foreign-related legal personnel with a global perspective, familiarity with international rules, and professionality in foreign-related laws.
